Generating or purchasing network marketing leads is a hotly contested debate with many pro’s and con’s to both methods.

Last nights LeadersClub training session that was the topic of discussion. For those that have been members, they already know the answer to that question…

…LeadersClub is a training and leads company, yet they’ll be the first to tell you that by generating your own leads you will get a higher quality lead.

What are the Pro’s and Con’s of both methods?

Generating Leads on your own:

Doing it this way is far more complex than most people have been lead to believe. In order to succeed with this method you have to Differentiate or Die!

We need to know to whom are we marketing too, new customers or new bodies to build your business? Is it local, regional, national, or global? This has to be considered if you want to generate leads on your own.

If you’re going to do it on the internet you’ll need a website, blog etc… You can hire someone to design and write it for you if your budget can afford it, which could cost you thousands.

Or, you can try to write it yourself, which means you’ll need to become a fairly competent web copywriter. Along with understanding all of the web metrics that go along with it eye flow etc…

You’ll spend countless hours choosing keywords, writing pages and posts etc… But, unless you know what your prospects want and can convey that information in your voice, it’s all meaningless.

Since it is so difficult, most people turn to using someone else’s lead generation system…

…Which works initially, since it is new and fresh. Yet, within a matter of months you’ll blend in with everyone else, delivering something that prospects have already rejected.

After all of that, you might if your really good, get a 15% conversion ratio. I know the lead generation pundits will be saying hogwash…

If I’m wrong ask them to put it in writing, guaranteeing that if you use their system you’ll get at least a 15% conversion ratio.

By that we mean people joining your business not buying their e-book or lead generation system. After all, isn’t that what your after growing your business?

Purchased leads Will have a lower conversion ratio!

Everyone has this common misconception that purchased leads are ready to go, they are just waiting for your phone call to start a business or purchase your products.

Don’t we wish… The truth is any prospect is just not into what you have to offer, and it doesn’t matter if it is self-generated or purchased.

Purchased leads are far more cost effective even with the lower conversion ratio. And, the give you the ability to talk to more people!

People bash purchased leads when this happens, “Your the fourth person to call me today!” They use this for instance as to why you need their system.

Yet, those trained by LeadersClub know exactly how to respond to this and many other prospecting challenges that occur with both purchased and self-generated leads.

So back to the topic at hand, should you generate or purchase network marketing leads?

This is where purchased leads come in, no matter how crappy you think they are. When, you can convert them from a cold lead to a hot prospect then your online conversions ratios will increases as well.

Buying Leads is one of the quickest ways to go broke in network marketing. Even generating them on your own can cause you to go broke.

Hard to believe isn’t it?

How can you go broke by generating your own network marketing leads or by purchasing leads?

Because working with leads is foreign to anything you’ve ever done before. And it doesn’t matter if you’ve been in sales before or not.

It does not matter how fired-up or motivated you are about your business, face it motivation is kind of over rated. Yet, motivation is what keep’s us moving forward when times are tough.

One factor which causes businesses to fail is, the inability to connect with people “customers!”

Connecting with people is not easy, even today connecting with those we love is difficult at best. And if we have a hard time connecting with those we love, how can we ever hope to accomplish this with a complete stranger?

When you purchase a lead or generate one on your own you are beginning a relationship with a total stranger. They really don’t know you at all, and could careless about what you have to offer! They are just not that into you…

…Today we live in the me first society!

Here is an example where people unknowingly kill a relationship, every year about this time I get emails like the one below from one of my sites contact forms:

Hi Glenn, I am contacting you because I know you are smart and smart people find out what they are saying “no” to before they say no. We are having huge success with a brand new company. We have top distributors from other companies joining us. Watch our 9 minute video and lets discuss xxxxx xxxx

Now it’s clear that the person who took the time to send this to me is trying to generate a lead and get me to take a look at his or her business right?

Where did they go wrong?

Did they assume, I might be interested in what they have to offer?

Was there anything on my website which gave them the impression that I would even be remotely interested in what they have to offer?

Did they look at the website at all or head straight for the contact form?

It’s quite obvious that they did not. Yet, this ineffective method of marketing isolates them from the one thing people fear the most “That Awful Feeling Of REJECTION!”

With this type of approach It is no wonder that network marketers suffer from a 97% failure rate! Shotgun marketing methods just don’t work!

Why is it that network marketers will go to great lengths to isolate themselves from other people?

Is it because we really feel that We Don’t Have Time to Learn All This Network Marketing S**T?

And this is why buying leads, even generating them yourself will eventually lead you to going broke in network marketing!

The ability to connect with people for some people is a natural gift, but if you’re like me it is a skill that must be learned, and we must change our habits as well!

But, this brings us to another problem how do we turn a cold lead into a hot prospect? How do we acquire these skills without going broke? The skills which will not only improve our business but every other aspect of our lives as well?

Education and Practice!

I like the phrase “Knowledge is Power!” Yet, it’s clearly understood or at least it should be that “knowledge without action is a complete waste!”

Network Marketing is about connecting with your network, those people within your circle of influence. Yet, there has been in the past many who refer to this as “Bugging Your Friends and Family!”

I’ll let you in on a little secret, they never really learned how to connect with people and don’t want you to learn as well! But, to be fair they do have a point. If you don’t know how to connect with family and friends “you’ll just be bugging them!”

Learning how to listen, and I mean really listen to others is the most important skill you’ll ever learn. That is the Law of Attraction Marketing!

It is not how well you can pitch your product or service or write on your website or email campaigns! If that is all it takes no company would ever need any of us, now would they?

Start by practicing with your significant other, your children etc…

…Stop and really listen to their wants and needs, then be the one to deliver what they want! You’ll find your life is richly rewarded for this action.

And, the practice will go a long way towards you building a successful network marketing business!

Everyone knows that we need prospects for our business to grow. Is it better to generate your own or buy leads from a reputable lead company?

Everywhere you look you’ll find advertisements that tell you to stop buying leads. Well if thats the case you might as well close the door to your business now.

Without prospects that we turn into customers it’s not a matter of if our business will fail but when!When it comes to Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising to generate your own leads there are many things to look at and learn.

Learning how to market both online and offline should be a priority. When you combine it with learning how to close your prospects you will achieve greater results.

Remember though that it will take time to learn how to market effectively both online and offline. There is no magic formula.

Landing Pages:Yes that is pages, advertising is a process of testing, finding out what our customer really wants.Long or Short page? Well that is a debate, often long teary pages will convert to sales and at other times they will just annoy the reader, this is where the testing and tracking comes in.

The Actual AD Itself:When you look at the amount of space that Google, Yahoo or Live give you there really isn’t a lot of room to work with. Our ad’s need to draw in the readers attention.

The ad must match the landing page, if not your visitor will feel you’ve cheated them with a bait and switch technique.

Return on investment: This is the point where the rubber meets the road and why buying leads is probably a better investment.It does take skills to close the sale. This is where new marketers fail in that they put the cart before the horse.

If it takes you $10.00 to generate one prospect and that could be conservative in todays market and yet your closure ratio is 1 out of 20 leads how long can you keep that up?

Lead Companies: Are everywhere, so there is no shortage of leads if you want them. The one area in which most people fail is not really understanding and having proper expectations of just what a lead really is.

There are some lead companies that specialize in delivering to you genealogy leads (I.E. people already in Network Marketing) in my opinion this is one of the problems within network marketing today.

Every fall, I get numerous calls from people that purchased my name off a list as someone that is interested in a home based business, I bet you do to.

The sad part is that they don’t even have a compelling reason as to why I should work with them.Very few leads companies will teach you how to generate your own leads as well as supply you leads. I guess I cannot blame them, thats almost like biting the hand that feeds you.
