Why would anyone give up on what they know is working for them in network marketing for what they don’t know? It beats the crap out of me…

Yet, one individual I recently talked to was doing just that. And, this individual was not taking the easy path.

By following the advice he had discovered on the internet, he had started a blog, was on twitter and facebook.

Posting about 5 times a week, in my opinion off to a great start on his blog…

Yet, it wasn’t producing anything. But, he’d already built a sizable downline simply by using his existing contacts…

…You know “That Dreaded Warm List” everyone tells you to avoid.

But, then they ask you to friend them on facebook so they have access to that warm list.

The key to successful marketing is keeping it balanced, and focusing on the areas that are the most productive.

If that happens to be working your warm market, why change. If you can get someone on twitter to stop blasting ads at you long enough to read your tweet, then use that as well.

If you want to blog, do it consistently and give it time to mature and grow. Eventually you’ll have a following or at least have people trying to figure out why you’re in the top 10 of the search results.

There really is no right or wrong method in network marketing as long as you’re connecting with real people.

If you do a search on the internet, everyone is proclaiming you need 10 to 50 new network marketing leads a day.

When I see this on Twitter, Blogs, Web Sites, and Social sites all I can think of is naive marketers.

Now follow me here…

Are they telling you the truth?

In order to generate marginal success this is the number they need! They never tell you what it costs in both time and money to generate that number nor do they give you their closure ratio. If they do give you one, how can we verify that it is fact?

Smart marketers know that mass marketing is not the answer. Ask any leader in network marketing what are some of the greatest challenges are…

Their Downline is not duplicating… In fact they are taking no action at all.

They are distracted by the massive amount of conflicting information and hype on the internet.

Many are trying to use a cast net for fishing, and in the process catch far more garbage with very few actually being their target market.

This is a by product of mass marketing, ensnaring the wrong target market.

The video below, gives you great pointers on how to discover your target market, and stay focused on your ideal customer!

For several years I ran test and tracked the results and found a point of diminishing returns…

So how many network marketing leads do we really need? Two to three per day is just about all anyone can work effectively.

You need quality not quantity…

Why does it seem that prospecting is so difficult in network marketing? If leads are the life blood, then prospecting it the heart beat!

Most network marketers would rather do anything, then take the steps that will move their business forward.

There are a few important factors that set the successful network marketers apart from those who are still failing today…

…anyone can learn this, if they apply themselves!

Our human nature guides us to trying to do the most with the least expenditure of energy… and there is nothing wrong with that!

Why Do We Make Prospecting Difficult?

It is amazing the great links people will go to just so they will not have to talk to anyone about their business! I know exactly how they feel! People have the idea in their head that buying leads are the worst thing you can do for your business!

If we do not have prospects… then we fail! Prospecting is about connecting with people that is the true secret of attraction marketing. It is not about how well we write, or even what we say to a degree. It is how well we listen and relate to the prospect.

When talking to a prospect we have to be genuinely Interested in them.

Really listening to a prospect is not hard, but far to often we want to rush this essential part of the process. You maybe thinking all I want is someone to join my business.

So without realizing it we end up blowing it, simply because we’ve become so focused on what we want, we ignore everything else.

It does not matter if you generate the prospect or buy the prospect, you’ll end up with the same results if you do not LISTEN to the prospect.

Today many of the good network marketers fall into the B level when it comes to prospecting, very few make it to the A level. It’s not that they have magic phrases or anything like that, they have done enough prospecting.

It is the skills you bring to the table that will determine your success for failure… but what if you don’t have these skills?

I’ll tell you more about that shortly!

It’s not enough to read a few books, follow scripts, etc… You need the feed back to learn and develop these skills that most simply cannot or refuse to do.

Practice Makes You Perfect!

Have you ever played sports? If you aspired to be the best you could be…

…you practiced and did it often!

The same principle applies to prospecting, if your not doing it consistently you make it nearly impossible to achieve any success. At best all you could hope for is poor to mediocre results!

The only way to change it is practice!

Get into the habit of talking to people, whether or not they are a prospect or not, I’m not saying try to recruit them!

Here is a page that will help you understand the difference between the 3% and the 97% with the right network marketing coaching! Take your prospecting to the next level!

One of the questions I often, get from people is I want to generate my own leads that will be exclusive to me. You can generate your own, but you must understand that they will never be exclusively yours!

This may have been the case 10 to 20 years ago, if lived in a very small town and you where the only one to offer a particular product or service there. Today the internet has made exclusivity just another fairy tale, most companies and savvy marketers know this!

Yet, when it comes to leads we have companies that, state their leads are sold only one time, how do you know? Is it because they’ve stated this on their web site?

Anyone can write anything they want on a web site, provide facts and figures etc… But how do you really know its true?

Do you have anyway to verify this statement as factual? What do they do with that so called exclusive network marketing lead, after they have sold it to you? Do they delete these leads from their database never to be sold again or do they re-surface again 4 months later? Call me a skeptic, but we just don’t know!

Today we have so much power when it comes to when and where we spend our money that we did not have just a few short years ago. Within just a few minutes of searching we can locate almost any product or service we want, and at a price we want to pay for it.

Today you can buy leads or generate your own; it does not mean you will be successful with them. I used to laugh when I would read the ads “Leads Suck,” in other words, the individual running the ads whether they knew it or not where really saying “People Suck!”

Now that is a pretty harsh statement but what do you think a lead is? With that type of attitude, it is no wonder they failed miserably or in essence where attracting the wrong type of people to their business. If you are a student of marketing and pay close attention, you will notice a trend, very few individuals are still advertising within a month or so after starting with one of these systems.

Fact is most only last a few weeks at best, trying to generate their own leads before they expend their marketing budget. So they end right where they started from, not enough people to talk to on a consistent basis. In December there was a good article Search Success In A Tough Economy that really brings into the lime-light what system owners are not telling you!

Is it important to talk to people on a consistent basis?

Absolutely, the challenge is in talking to not only enough of the right kind of people, those who are actually seeking an opportunity and doing it on a consistent basis. This consistency is necessary, in-order to develop and hone our skills as we go through the prospecting process. Yet most people will give up or run out of money trying to generate exclusive prospects that still will not join their business.

Then human nature kicks in and we want to blame someone, anyone, especially a lead company if we are buying leads with statements like they sell crappy leads. What if it was one of your own self-generated exclusive network marketing leads, and they don’t jump at the chance to join your business, who do you place blame on then? In reality how can we blame anyone or anything for our inability to connect with people?

What we really must know is at what point in the sales – prospecting process did everything fall apart, and how do I fix it! You cannot get this from any e-book or course as each situation will be different, your dealing with real people. This is why, I have been a member of Leaders Club for over six years, and recommend it here on this site.

I can work their leads or my own “there really isn’t a whole lot of difference,” after all your not chasing me right now are you, so much for that law of attraction? Where their strength lies, is in giving unbiased answers and solutions to my prospecting questions, during the live training calls, and the private mastermind forum. They do what other success programs and no course can do and that is work with you to troubleshoot and solve any prospecting, marketing and leadership challenges you may meet with along the way.

In January 2009 Leaders Club brought out a new leads package of 3 daily super premium leads to compliment their 5 daily and 10 daily package, if your doing everything correctly anything more then 3 a day can be a handful. Now these leads are not exclusive “remember it’s just a myth,” yet I know I can get 3 leads 7 days a week that have filled out the following information for far less then I would have to spend daily on pay-per-click advertising;

Best time to call:

Reason for wanting to start a business:

How Soon they want to start:

Available investment:

Most important element desired in a business:

The same kind of information anyone would want to receive on your own lead capture page. Yet Even on my own pages my tracking shows only about 20 percent provide this much information consistently. The other 80 percent like to play the game of first name T last J with a fake email address. Can you spell competitor trying to figure out what your up to?

Now if you where advertising via pay-per-click imagine what the costs are per lead, and you still have no guarantee they will ever do business with you, and still not that mythical exclusive network marketing lead. And you will have your competitors clicking on your ad, to see what your up to, wow one of those dirty little network marketing secrets no one wants you to know about!

Historically when times get tough network marketing still flourishes, people begin to look for additional ways to generate additional income. Often when there is a down turn people begin to search because one they’ve either lost their jobs or their hours have been significantly cut.

Yet at this time is when most people who can cut back on their marketing budget. They stop trying to reach out to those people who are interested in getting started in a business.

Historically those with strong marketing skills, will continue to do well while those that lack this knowledge will continue to slip further and further behind. Eventually they become frustrated and quit.

You can tell we are at this point now, as the increase in unsolicited email is on the rise. At this point in time people will try just about anything to get ahead, yet they never fully understand their prospects at all.

It is kind of interesting, that you find this information all over the internet in network marketing the 97% failure rate, yet where did it come from.

The Mind of Vatke – Tracking Down The Truth In Network Marketing

Yes it is very interesting how many people will take information without really knowing where it came from.

What is really interesting is how many marketers have used this information and really stretched the truth on it, or have they? I was reading a blog the other day and they where stating that it was 98% fail to earn more then Ten Dollars!

Now where did they get their research? Was it as in depth as the original report? Or was it just a good sound bite to hype for the system they are promoting?

I’ll take it a little further!

Just tonight I was reading, how someone was using a system you know one of those funnel systems, they had generated 500 leads and sponsored 2 of them.

And, they guy that had produced the system was congratulating him on sponsoring two people

My only thought was wow, you generated your own leads and your sponsoring rate was not even one percent! What is wrong with that picture?

I’ve stated it so many times throughout this website and blog that even generating your own leads will not guarantee you will succeed!

Without good prospecting “communication” skills it doesn’t really matter if you generate leads from your own marketing efforts or purchase them from network marketing lead company!

I’ve watched many people that have spent some serious training time in Leadersclub and place this knowledge into action move into the 30 to 50 percent sponsoring rate.

Even Ann Sieg my former downline and leadersclub subscriber, failed miserably in the beginning! I know I gave her 100’s of leads that requested a physical piece of material.

So when I read that 500 leads and sponsored 2, I thought to myself what a waste. With the right training and skill development he might have sponsored 150 people.

Yet, this goes back to what we all want a quick fix no matter how crappy we are at doing our job!

So now if your still wondering where the 97% Failure rate in network marketing came from, now you know!

Every day as I prospect in my business, I run across a network marketer asking, “How do I find quality people?”

When I get a chance to talk to the marketer I tell them the answer is simple. Industry statistics tell us that 1 in 10 marketers turn out to be productive marketers. In addition, industry statistics tell us it takes an average of 45 telephone dials to recruit one marketer into our business.

So, let’s do the math – 45 telephone dials = 1 marketer / 450 telephone dials = 10 marketers and 10 marketers equals 1 productive network marketer (a quality person). Based on these statistics, I should be able to recruit 1 quality person into my organization every 450 telephone dials.

Recruiting quality productive people into our businesses is simple; however, few network marketers will take the necessary effective action to make it happen. As one industry leader has stated, “Network marketing is a simple business but it is not an easy business.”

As I am prospecting for people in my “leads” and “training” business, I constantly come across the question, “How can I find quality people?” My answer is always the same, “Look for people in pain.”

When I first got into the network marketing business, I would be attracted to the prospects with the most natural talent and ability. These are the people who have excellent communication skills and appear to have the ability to relate to people and quickly establish credibility and rapport. Surely these were the kind of people I need to build my organization – WRONG!

Slowly, I began to discover that natural talent and ability alone, do not constitute what it takes to succeed in a network marketing business. What it really takes to succeed is a deep desire and interest to want to change one’s life from their current situation to where they want to be.

When prospecting for people to join your team, do not underestimate how important it is to find out WHY they are interested in building a home-based business. If their WHY is not based on a deep desire to change their current circumstances, this prospect will have a slim chance of success.

This evening I stumbled upon one of the dumbest articles I’ve probably ever read on prospecting.

First show me a business that does not prospect and is still in business today. Prospecting is part art and science, yet many fail at it before the really learn just what it is.

I found myself fortunate to learn from a friend of mine and watch a master work at his craft. Where others would miserably fail he would succeed in getting follow up calls and conversions to sales.

Everyone really is a prospect but maybe just not your product or even you. Network Marketing is not about pushing a button and getting signups. If it were that easy then everyone would be doing it.

The is a great book which talks about sales “ok there are many of them out there” but one that I liked is called Sales Dogs.

It talks about the different types of sales people, their methods, and mannerisms. The book does not cover how to makes sales it just shows you the different styles, from this you can determine which style fits you.

Back to the incredibly stupid article I read, the author I won’t mention the name to avoid the individuals embarrassment really likes to talk about ditching the warm list etc… My guess is the never really learned exactly what to do with that warm list in the first place.

There is a company I like, when I talk to my neighbors and friends they are very interested in it! So what’s the difference well for one it is something they have no choice in; they cannot live without it.

And this can save them money period no questions asked! So If I were to wait for them to come to me through some internet search I would not have 1/10th of the business I have today.

Part of the art of prospecting is understanding people. Realizing that not everyone is your target market for your business, but your products quite possibly they are. Learning how to communicate with people so that both of you get what each other wants.

Learning the art and science of prospecting, is not difficult but it does require work and education.

Unfortunately, today we live in a society that wants everything yesterday. We are no longer willing to do what ever it takes to become successful and this is not just in network marketing!

You see it everywhere in society today, companies will sell you a degree for a price. Then when the rubber meets the road people really find out what you’re made of.

Just ask yourself this question, How do I want to be remembered years down the road. Take the time to learn this wonderful art of prospecting. Learn the skills necessary on how to help people get what they want out of life.
