Choosing A Template For Our Blog.
February 6, 2008 by Glenn Burks
When it comes to choosing a template for our blog, blogspot makes it quite simple. We can make it more complicated in the future, but for now we’ll keep it simple.
Personally I like to keep my sites and therefore templates on the easy to read side. This does not appeal to everyone though.
In order to choose our template within the blogspot site, we first need to login to the site. There are several ways to do this, the first one is to just goto blogger.com and sign in.
From here we will see the dashboard showing you the blog that you’ve created. From this window we can click on, make a new post. We can manage, Posts, Settings and Layout.
Today we are choosing layout, since we will be choosing the template that we want for our blog. From the template tab we will want to select “Pick New Template.”
You should arrive at this page:

The template I prefer is called Minima which is the first one that appears in the top corner. The important thing is to choose the template you like. “Don’t forget to save your settings.”
One of the reasons I like minima is the way that the page is presented to the search engines. In other words one of the first things they will find is “TEXT.”
Once we’ve chosen the blog template we like we can then proceed to the Settings tab. Under this tab you’ll notice that we have many different options to choose from, we’ll start with the Basic tab.
Most of it is pretty self explanatory. Think of a great title, and remember to brand yourself as well. After you’ve made your changes, again save them!
The next tab Publishing under Settings we should not have to mess with this.
The next tab Formatting, has a few items that you may want to change based on your personal preferences. The first one “Show” as it indicates will set the number of posts that you want to show on your index page.
Personally I don’t like pages that take anymore then 3 clicks in the side bar to get to the bottom. So depending on the length of your posts will determine how many posts I would show on the main page.
Hopefully by now you have though about the theme you want your blog to convey to your readers.
Google has many useful tools that we can implement with blogger, yet it is not the only service that has blogs. The integration with your gmail and other tools makes it quite unique though.
Till the next post on using Blogger.
